📖 About Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation
Thiruvananthapuram (formerly Trivandrum) is the capital and the largest city of the Indian state of Kerala. Referred to by Mahatma Gandhi as the "Evergreen City of India," it is characterized by its undulating terrain of low coastal hills, rich heritage, and busy commercial avenues. Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation (TMC) is the oldest and the largest city corporation in Kerala.
The Conservancy Department was first started in Thiruvananthapuram in 1877 during the reign of King Ayilyam Thirunal of the Travancore kingdom. Later, during the reign of Sree Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma, the Thiruvananthapuram Municipality was officially converted into a Municipal Corporation on 30 October 1940.
Today, the city corporation is spread over 214.86 square kilometers and is divided into 101 wards. The Thiruvananthapuram Corporation Council is the second largest democratically elected body in Kerala after the Legislative Assembly. The city is a major IT hub (home to Technopark, India's largest IT park), a premier educational center, and a major tourist destination featuring historic temples, palaces, and beaches.
